Day 1

9-11-1639

We decided to drive to Berchtesgaden since it was only about a five and a half hour drive. We stayed at Hotel Grünberger for a total of €306 for three nights. There was such a beautiful view from our balcony. After we checked into our hotel, we headed towards the Lake Königssee. We stopped at Restaurant Seehaus am Königssee for lunch. My husband and I both had the currywurst, pommes and Wieninger Weißbiers for a total of $23.30. After lunch, we decided to do a lake cruise that goes from Königssee to St. Bartholomä that is $15.36 each. We got off at the St. Bartholomä stop so that we could look around for a little bit. There is a beautiful church at this location called the St. Bartholomew’s Church that has a red domed roof. By the time we had returned from our lake cruise, it was time for dinner. We headed back to our hotel and went next door for dinner at the Hotel Schwabenwirt. We both had schnitzels, pommes and Franziskaner Weissbier.

Day 2

We woke up and had breakfast at our hotel. There was a big selection that included eggs, bacon, an assortment of breads, cereal, etc. After breakfast, our first stop was the Salzbergwerk Berchtesgaden. We started off the tour by getting on a train that took us through the salt mines. The tour also includes going down a huge slide and a boat ride across Mirror Lake. I would definitely recommend doing this tour. We then went to Eagle’s Nest, which was $25 per person. It is worth it though because view from the top is incredible! We were starting to get hungry, so we ate lunch at the Kehlsteinhaus. The chicken schnitzel at this restaurant was the best I’ve ever had. We both had the pork schnitzels, pommes and Bier Helles for a total of $25.

When we were done with lunch, we explored some of the trails that were at the top before heading back down to our car. By the time we got back to our hotel, it was dinnertime. We started walking around looking for a place to eat and saw the Franziskanerkirche. This monastery dates back to the fourteen hundreds. We ended up finding the Gasthof Neuhaus for dinner. I had the half roast chicken with pommes and a Franziskaner Weissbier. My husband had the ½ roasted pork knuckle with pommes and a Franziskaner Weissbier. It was a total of $30 for both of us. We also got to try the pretzels and cheese that they had which were amazing! Afterwards, we came across La Fontana and grabbed some ice cream. The ice cream was $1.27 per scoop. As we were walking back to the hotel, there were musicians playing in lederhosen.

Day 3

We had breakfast at our hotel again before heading to Salzburg, Austria for the day. We headed to the bus station to get on Bus 840 that leaves every one to two hours. The bus begins running at 0630AM and the latest return bus comes back at 1815PM (subject to change). Next week, I will be posting about our day trip in Salzburg. When we got back from our day trip, we had dinner at Watz Bayerish Pub. I had the Spaghetti Aglio Olio and my husband had the Margherita pizza. It was $17 for the both of us to eat.
